Skolyx can once again present some great news from the well-known Spanish company Yanko - a new range of really affordable Goodyear welted workwear boots. Three different models in several different leather options - including two versions in Shell Cordovan. A collection that we at Skolyx have been part of developing.
The boots are Goodyear welted and easy to resole, are lined fully in leather, have heel stiffeners in leather board that conform well to your feet, and with durable rubber soles from Vibram or XL Extralight. Sturdy boots that are built to take a beating and in materials that only will get more beautiful with age. Prices from €296 ($287 excl. VAT for those outside EU). Priced at €299 ($287 excl. VAT for those outside EU), with cordovan models at €525 ($496 excl. VAT).
Yanko is one of the oldest still active classic shoe brands from Spain, founded in 1961. They were one of the world's largest manufacturers of Goodyear welted shoes in the late 20th century, producing over a million pairs of shoes each year. Today they are much smaller, but have a solid reputation as an affordable manufacturer of everything from dress men's shoes and boots to classic Belgian loafers.
For these boots we've chosen slightly special leathers. Firstly, we have a so-called pull-up leather from the Spanish tannery Combalia, who have tanned leather outside of Barcelona since year 1900. Pull-up leather is aniline dyed and then finished with waxes and oils for excellent resistance and a soft touch, and when stretched it becomes lighter coloured in these areas, which means a natural, lovely character will develop with use.
The moc toe and Norwegian Stitched Toe boots are also available in a medium brown suede from the world famous British tannery Charles F. Stead, in their Repello Gum Oil. An extra durable suede with a slightly oily finish that gives a nice depth of colour and can withstand rough treatment.
Last but certainly not least, we have two models in Shell Cordovan from the Italian tannery Maryam - the Service Boot, available in wine red, and the NST Quilt in cognac-coloured cordovan. Shell Cordovan is an extremely durable vegetable tanned leather, using the rump from the horse and the special muscle membrane that sits under the skin here. The leather is stuffed with natural oils and waxes that give it a lovely sheen, and make it easy to restore the look and cover marks just by brushing hard or rubbing with a deer bone. When the shoes are creased, the characteristic soft waves form in the leather. Maryam is considered by many to be Europe's premier cordovan tannery, housed in Italy's tannery centre Santa Croce along the Arno River.
