How to choose the correct size in our shoe trees

Alternative 1 (recommended) - Choose size corresponding to your standard shoe size

The easiest solution to find the correct size in our standard cedar wood shoe trees, is to start with your shoe size in your shoes - and then go down 0,5-1 sizes in the shoe trees, since they are relatively large in size. For example, if you wear EU43 / UK9 / US10 in your shoes, choose size 42 in our cedar wood shoe trees. The same goes if you wear EU42,5 / UK8,5 / US9,5, you choose size 42 shoe trees. If you have size EU42 / UK8 / US9 in your shoes, then you go down to size 41 in the shoe trees. And so on. For roomier shoes and boots, one can use the same size shoe trees as the shoes, the above is a generalisation.

Please note that we have different guidance for women's shoes below.

Alternative 2 - Measure your feet and compare to our size table

If you are still a bit uncertain of which size to choose, do the following:

  • Put your foot on a piece of paper and lean slightly forward so you put your full weight on your foot.

  • Using a pencil draw around your foot.

  • Now you can measure the length of your foot and look at the table below to see which size fits you the best.
Choose a shoetree that is between 1-2 cm bigger than your foot. For example if your foot is 29 cm you should go for size 43 or 44 since the shoetree can be contracted 2 cm.

The length in cm of the shoe tree is in its full length. From this length the tubes of the shoetree can be pushed together 2 cm. You always want to push your trees about 1-2 cm together to make them stretch the shoe in a proper way.

For our standard shoe trees with split toe, you should generally go down two sizes from your regular shoe size when using them in women's boots or heavier shoes like brogues etc. It's important to not have shoe trees in the exact same size as your feet. If they do have the same size the shoe tree won't expand the shoe enough and some of the most important advantage of using a shoe tree is lost.

Shoe trees sizing for women's shoes

As a standard, most go down two sizes in our shoe trees compared to the shoe size. This since our shoe trees are large in size.

For example: A women with size EU39 in her chelsea boots from Skolyx or Loake (Chatterley) measures her feet and they are 25 cm in length. If we take a look at the table below we can see that the size 39 shoetrees is 27 cm in length. This would mean that the shoetrees is pushed together max (the shoe trees can contract 2 cm from their maximum length) to be 25 cm, the same as the women's feet is. A better fit in this case would be to go for a size 37. This is a generalisation, for roomier shoes it can be enough to go down one size compared to the shoes.

If you want to use measurement table to find out which size that is most suitable for you, follow this simple steps:
1. Place your foot on a piece paper and lean slightly forward so you have your foot firmly placed on the paper.
2. Draw a line around your foot with a pencil.
3. Now you can measure the length of your foot and look at the table below to see which shoetree fits you the best. Choose a shoetree that is between 1 and 2 cm bigger than your foot measurement. For example if your foot is 25 cm choose size 37 or perhaps 38.

Please note that the measurements show the shoe trees expanded mode. From the expanded mode they can be detracted two cm.
